Interfyl®.
Know your options.

Understanding human connective tissue matrix.

Interfyl is a processed material made from donated human placental tissue. If it has been mentioned in your care, discuss the proposed use, current availability, and other options for your foot or ankle concern.

What it is

Donor-derived tissue.

How it differs from PRP

Interfyl is made from donated human placental connective tissue. It is processed to remove cells and is supplied as particulate or flowable material. It is not prepared from a blood draw at your appointment.

Why it has been mentioned

The proposed role.

Explore foot & ankle care

Product descriptions refer to supplementing inadequate tissue or filling soft-tissue defects. Ask your doctor to explain the exact tissue problem being addressed, how the material would be used, and the current status of that proposed use.

Discuss your goals

Benefit & alternatives.

Ask the office

Ask what improvement may be realistic, how progress would be assessed, and what happens if you do not improve. Footwear, support, rehabilitation, or another treatment may be more appropriate for your diagnosis.

An examination should guide the conversation. You do not need to choose a product before your visit.

Your visit & recovery

Know what
you’re considering.

A useful discussion starts with your diagnosis, previous treatment, and the activities that matter to you.

  1. Start with an assessment.

Describe your symptoms and any previous care. Bring your medication list and tell your doctor about allergies, infection, or past reactions to tissue products.

  2. Review the proposed plan.

Discuss current product availability and status, the intended role, expected benefit, risks, alternatives, and costs. Ask which parts of the plan are uncertain.

  3. Plan the aftercare.

If a procedure is planned, ask about walking, driving, footwear or a boot, activity limits, and follow-up. Instructions depend on the procedure and your condition.

A few helpful answers

Questions
about Interfyl.

Choose a question to read more.

Is Interfyl the same as PRP?

No. Interfyl is made from processed donor tissue. Platelet-rich plasma, or PRP, is prepared from your own blood. Ask your doctor which product is being discussed and why.

About PRP
Is it a living stem cell treatment?

Interfyl is described as a decellularized tissue matrix. Decellularized means it has been processed to remove cells. It should not be described as a treatment containing living stem cells.

Will it help my particular injury?

Ask how the proposed use relates to your exact diagnosis, what benefit is realistically expected, and which alternatives may suit you. A product description alone does not establish that it will improve your symptoms.

What does it cost? Will insurance cover it?

Confirm availability first. Ask the office for a current written estimate and what it includes. Check coverage for the specific service with your insurer; coverage for an evaluation does not necessarily include a tissue product or procedure.
