What is Hallux Rigidus?
Hallux rigidus is reduced motion of the big toe joint due to arthritis. Movement of the joint and walking/pushing off the toe, can cause sharp pain. Swelling, aching, and occasional cracking/locking may also occur.

Surgery Options for Hallux Rigidus
When conservative treatment fails, surgical management may be warranted. Several options are possible depending on symptoms and x-ray findings.
A cheilectomy, 1st MTPJ fusion and a variety of other surgical procedures are potential options.
