SEVERE BUNION: OPENING BASE WEDGE OSTEOTOMY

For severe bunion deformities an OBWO provides dramatic correction while avoiding shortening of the first metatarsal or fusion of the 1st TMTJ(Lapidus). Plates come in different sizes to allow for precise correction. A mix of trinity and the patients own bone allows for expedited, reliable healing.  This procedure requires 4-6 weeks of boot or cast protection and I typically allow patients  to weight-bear after 2 weeks.  This new technique has revolutionized the correction of severe bunion deformity.
