RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS
Rheumatoid Arthritis or RA is a genetic arthritis where the patients own immune system attacks synovial joints. Advances in medications have really helped patients suffering from RA. In the foot RA patients often suffer pain and dislocations of the joints in the forefoot. This is often treated with orthotics, physical therapy, NSAIDS and injections. If deformity and pain has become severe, surgical intervention can provide patients with a stable foot to stay active on. I have really enjoyed reconstructing some of the most severe rheumatic feet. The results and relief patients experience can be dramatic.
